Point Amour on the Radio Waves - VO2MPR
Posted 22 August 2020, 2:36 pm NDT
This year, on 22 and 23 August, the annual International Lighthouses and Lighthships Weekend (ILLW) happens (see http://www.illw.net). Amateur Radio Operators (also known as Ham Radio Operators) are setting up temporary stations in Lighthouses all over the world.
Point Amour is the site for one of those operations. Dave Goodwin from New Brunswick is a regular visitor to Point Amour and has set up an Amateur Radio station in the Heritage Centre. Point Amour holds Amateur Radio call sign VO2MPR and will be making radio contacts with other lighthouses and with other Radio Amateurs at their homes.
Dave will be using Morse Code and voice on the shortwave Amateur Radio bands. Dave will also make some contacts through Amateur Radio satellites orbiting the earth.
If you would like to take part in the fun, learn about the communications history of Point Amour and learn about Amateur Radio, please come down to Point Amour all day Saturday and Sunday 22 and 23 August.
